Itineraries
Guide updated · verify Explore Parks WA / DBCA the morning you go
These plans are for real Perth day trips and Yanchep overnights — drive time, heat, Walk Safe and cave bookings included — not a “do everything” list. Pick the one that matches your group, then open it for a timeline, packing notes and what to skip. Print from any plan page, or grab the free day-trip checklist (HTML) / practical planner anytime.
Every itinerary defers to Explore Parks WA / DBCA for track status and alerts. Ghost House only appears where the plan names it — and only when official status is open.
Which plan fits you?
- Half-day family — koala boardwalk, picnic oval, Wetlands or Woodlands. No Ghost House promise.
- Caves + Crystal Cave — book the tour first, then Caves Walk / Dwerta Mia.
- Full-day Ghost House — Walk Safe, lunch, water, most of a day. Skip the 3 pm cave.
- Overnight Henry White — official Park Stay only; then use the park as a day visitor.
- Spring wildflower — still McNess-first; woodland colour is a bonus layer.
If two plans both “sound good,” pick the shorter one. You can always add something on the ground; you can’t make more daylight after a 12.4 km sand loop.

3–5 hours on the ground (plus ~45–60 min each way from Perth CBD)
Half-day family: koala, short walks, picnic
First visit with mixed ages who will treat the boardwalk and a short loop as success
McNess House, koala boardwalk, picnic oval, then either Wetlands Walk or Woodlands / Dwerta Mia — not Ghost House, not a walk-up Crystal Cave promise, not Henry White as a day carpark.

Most of a daylight day (about 5 hours walking plus McNess logistics and Perth drive)
Full-day Ghost House Walk
Fit walkers who will register Walk Safe and carry lunch
The signature long day: Walk Safe at McNess, yellow markers, wetlands and paperbarks, tuart, Ghost House limestone ruins, Shapcott’s country, return. Not a koala-boardwalk add-on and not a 3 pm cave tour.

Half day (walk ~2 hours + tour ~45 minutes plus waiting and Perth drive)
Caves Walk and Crystal Cave
Visitors who booked the cave and still want limestone country on the surface
Book Crystal Cave first, walk Caves Walk (~4.5 km Class 3) with Boomerang Gorge views, do the guided tour, then stop. Passes do not cover cave tickets. Cabaret Cave is exterior / functions only.

One night (max stay 7 nights) plus the next morning in the park
Overnight at Henry White Oval
Park Stay campers who already hold a booking and want Walk Safe at opening for Ghost House or a quiet koala hour
Book Henry White on parkstay.dbca.wa.gov.au only. Unpowered grass and hardstand. Camping fee per person per night plus vehicle entry. Drinking water not guaranteed. Yanchep Inn is a different commercial bed. Day visitors do not use this oval as a carpark.
Open plan →

Full day from Perth or a Henry White night (August–October window)
Spring wildflower day
Milder walking weather plus bloom — still a McNess-first day, not an off-track botanist transect
Best overall visitor window: wildflowers (kangaroo paw, Yanchep rose, orchids and other heath/woodland bloom — we do not list every species) on Woodlands / Ghost House / Caves country. Stay on tracks. Koalas and the cave remain bookings/queues, not a substitute for the path.
