Caves Walk and Crystal Cave
Guide updated · verify Explore Parks WA / DBCA the morning you go
Book Crystal Cave first, walk Caves Walk (~4.5 km Class 3) with Boomerang Gorge views, do the guided tour, then stop. Passes do not cover cave tickets. Cabaret Cave is exterior / functions only.

Crystal Cave is a ticketed guided product (~45 min, ~18 °C, lowest restriction around 1.23 m bending on the booking page — [VERIFY] live). Typical public clock about five tours a day — 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm — [VERIFY times]. Official cave page (re-checked 26 Aug 2026): Adult $16 / Child $8 / Concession $12 / Family $40. Park entry still required for vehicles. Parks Passes do not cover the tour.
Caves Walk (~4.5 km Class 3, about two hours from McNess) does not get you underground without a ticket. If the tour is booked out, still walk the loop plus koala and Loch McNess — Plan B article on this site. That still counts. Do not loiter at the gate.
Cabaret Cave is a function venue, not a drop-in show cave. Yonderup is listed as a 60-minute guided tour on the official park page — no dollar on the attraction-fees table when we checked 26 Aug 2026. Confirm at McNess. Unguided caving is not the plan.
Do not stack Ghost House onto this clock. Cave + Caves Walk is a half-day. Cave + 12.4 km is how people miss 3 pm. Not walked for this date. Independent unofficial.
Track status, weather, fees and closures change — verify on Explore Parks WA / DBCA before you leave, then use the timeline below as a planning skeleton only. Henry White Oval is official Park Stay camping — never affiliated here. Yanchep Inn is commercial lodging.

Timeline
Night before / before you leave home
Hold tickets or name Plan B
Book Crystal Cave online or plan to be at McNess when it opens (commonly 9.15 am–4.30 pm [VERIFY]). Confirm height / stairs / fitness on the live booking page (lowest point about 1.23 m). If you cannot book, the plan becomes Caves Walk + koala + picnic — say that out loud so nobody expects a walk-up show cave. Screenshot the booking, McNess hours and alerts on home Wi-Fi.
Leave Perth with the session clock
Protect the meeting point
A 3 pm tour plus a late CBD start is how groups hit dusk tired. Morning sessions leave more surface-walk buffer. Last fuel/food in Yanchep / Two Rocks. Pay or show vehicle entry — that is not a cave ticket. No dogs. Do not leave a dog in a hot car at McNess.
McNess
Confirm meeting time, toilets, water
Confirm the session and meeting point. Companion Card: follow official office instructions, not this site. We do not publish an agency email. If someone is claustrophobic, say so before you pay. Then walk Caves Walk so you arrive at the meeting point 10–15 minutes early — or do a short out-and-back if the tour is soon.
Surface limestone
Caves Walk or Dwerta Mia
Caves Walk is sandy and rocky in places — not a thong walk. Dwerta Mia offers ~2.1 km or a ~500 m Boomerang Gorge loop; pick one on the sign. Stay out of closed holes. Photograph Cabaret Cave exterior only if signed as OK. Dieback: stay on marked surfaces. Read markers so you do not inherit Ghost House yellow.
Tour
Guided ~45 minutes
Closed-toe shoes. The cave is cool; the walk above is not. Follow the guide. Do not touch formations — oils from hands damage speleothems. If someone freezes at the first descent, that is a staff conversation — not a self-rescue through another entrance. Do not loiter at the gate if you missed the slot.
After
Picnic, koala, or stop
Optional 500 m Boomerang Gorge loop if legs remain and you have not already walked Caves Walk. Koala boardwalk if the precinct is calm. Picnic ovals — not Henry White sites. Ghost House is tomorrow. Protect the Perth reverse: do not invent a second hero.
Leave with buffer
Reverse clock
Watch dusk wildlife on park roads. Honest debrief: if the tour was full, the surface walk still counted. If stairs were too much, keep Wetlands / koala for next time.

Parking & access tips
- Visitor-precinct parking. Do not block tour coaches.
- Being parked is not a cave ticket.
- Do not occupy Henry White sites while you wait for a session.
- Arrive 10–15 minutes before the meeting time — not “when we finish Ghost House.”
- 2WD sealed to the core. No mandatory 4WD.
Skip if short on time / energy
- Ghost House the same afternoon
- Yonderup as a self-guide or as “included” in Crystal Cave
- Cabaret Cave interior without an event booking
- Walk-up on a peak weekend with no Plan B
- Anyone who cannot manage stairs and bending to about 1.23 m
- Treetops stacked onto a 3 pm tour
Extra tips
Who this plan is for
- Groups who already hold (or will buy) a Crystal Cave ticket
- Walkers who want limestone country without a five-hour ruins day
- Families who can handle stairs and a 45-minute guided underground walk
- Anyone whose Plan B is still a complete park day if the tour is full
Fees (keep tills separate)
- Vehicle entry / Parks Pass ≠ cave ticket ≠ Henry White camping ≠ golf
- Official Crystal Cave dollars (26 Aug 2026): Adult $16 / Child $8 / Concession $12 / Family $40 — [VERIFY] live
- Aboriginal Cultural Experience is a separate scheduled product (same advertised price band; public Sunday and public holidays 2 pm and 3 pm commonly listed — [VERIFY])
- This unofficial site never sells tickets
Decision gates
- No booking in peak: walk the loop, skip the gate loiter
- Cannot bend at ~1.23 m: skip the tour, keep the walk
- Claustrophobia: say so at McNess before you pay
- Tour at 3 pm: skip a long surface loop after, or book morning
- Wanted Ghost House: switch plans — do not stack
What success looks like
- One underground hour plus one surface walk — not every cave name on the map
- Formations not touched
- Cabaret left as a functions venue
- Perth reverse with a functioning driver
Next trip upgrade
- Official Aboriginal Cultural Experience if that is why you came
- Full-day Ghost House on a different day with Walk Safe
- Half-day family if underground was too much for the group

- Caves Walk TrailLoop from McNess past Crystal Cave (and toward Cabaret / Yonderup context). Limestone, some sandy/gravel middle section, views to Boomerang Gorge and tuarts. Book the cave separately if you want underground.
- Dwerta Mia Walk TrailEasy interpretive walk with a short Boomerang Gorge option. Limestone country without committing to the 4.5 km Caves loop. Stay on signed paths.
- Koala boardwalkShort boardwalk to a small managed koala colony in the visitor precinct. Weekend and school-holiday queues are the failure mode. Daily talks have been suspended at times — [VERIFY] animals and talks on the day. Do not treat this as wild bush koala tracking.
