Crystal Cave & limestone country
Perth metro tourist cave (guided, ticketed) plus Caves Walk, Boomerang Gorge / Dwerta Mia, and Cabaret Cave as an exterior / functions venue only.
Last reviewed · not walked — verify Explore Parks WA / DBCA and alerts before you travel
- Best for: Booked underground tours, half-day limestone walks, not self-guided caving
- Time: ~45 minutes underground plus waiting; add ~2 hours if you walk Caves Walk
- Same sealed park roads to the visitor core. Cave tours meet at the signed Crystal Cave point — being in the park is not a ticket.

Why the cave is a booking, not a wander
Crystal Cave is the Perth-metro tourist cave: guided, about 45 minutes, formations and a stream-cave story, constant-ish ~18 °C. Official pages sell tickets at McNess or online. Typical public clock is about five tours a day — 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm — [VERIFY times]. Being in the park is not a ticket.
Official Crystal Cave page (re-checked 26 Aug 2026): Adult $16 / Child $8 / Concession $12 / Family $40. Same dollar band is advertised for the Aboriginal Cultural Experience (public Sunday and public holidays 2 pm and 3 pm — [VERIFY]). Parks Passes do not cover either. Vehicle entry is still required for cars.
Walk how-to: Caves Walk. Plan B if sold out: walk the limestone, koala boardwalk, Loch McNess. That still counts. See the booked-out article. This unofficial site never sells cave tickets.
What the tour actually asks of you
Stairs, low sections, uneven cave floor, no souvenir touching. The booking page notes a natural height restriction with the lowest point about 1.23 m, which needs bending and a certain level of fitness. That line is on the booking product, not the Explore Parks cave page — [VERIFY] live. Not a pram product. If someone is claustrophobic, say so at McNess before you pay.
The meeting point is signed. Caves Walk passes the area — that does not let you skip the guide. Do not loiter at the gate if the tour is full. Closed-toe shoes. The cave is cool; the walk above is not. Carry water for the surface loop.
Companion Card bookings: follow official office instructions, not this site. We do not publish an agency email.
Crystal vs Yonderup vs Cabaret
Crystal Cave is the standard tourist show cave. Cabaret Cave is a function venue — exterior and context only unless you have an event booking. Photograph the entrance if signed as OK; do not add it to a Crystal Cave ticket in your head.
Yonderup Cave is listed on the official park page as a 60-minute guided tour. This unofficial site has no confirmed public fee table for Yonderup on the attraction-fees page (re-checked 26 Aug 2026). Confirm at McNess. Do not enter closed holes. Unguided caving is not the plan.
More than four hundred caves have been recorded in the park in visitor material. That is geology colour, not a licence to scramble. Stay on signed walks.
Surface limestone: Caves Walk and Boomerang Gorge
Caves Walk (~4.5 km, Class 3, ~2 hours from McNess) is the honest surface pair: Crystal Cave precinct, Boomerang Gorge views, tuart, return toward the park core. It is sandy and rocky in places. Not a cliff stair like an eastern-states pass — still not a thong walk.
Dwerta Mia offers a ~2.1 km walk or a ~500 m Boomerang Gorge loop — pick one on the sign. Interpretive, easier, a family limestone taste without the full Class 3 circuit. Read markers so you do not inherit Ghost House yellow.
Dieback hygiene: stay on marked surfaces. Unmarked limestone is not a shortcut. Reverse is the signed loop back to McNess, not a cross-country cut.
How to fit it without wrecking the day
Cave + Caves Walk is a half-day. Cave + koala + picnic is a family half-day. Book the cave first, then fill the remaining clock. If the tour is 10 am, do not start Ghost House at 9.30.
Weekends and school holidays sell out. Book. If you cannot book, walk the limestone anyway. Surface Caves Walk plus koala still counts. Do not invent a self-guided Crystal Cave.
Perth is ~45–60 minutes each way. A 3 pm tour plus a long reverse clock is how groups hit dusk tired. Protect the drive home. Itinerary: caves-and-crystal-cave.
Formations and Country
Whadjuk and Yued Country. Do not touch speleothems. Oils from hands damage formations. Do not pocket rock. Do not drone where official rules forbid it — [VERIFY] live.
Public cultural interpretation belongs on official Aboriginal Cultural Experience tours and McNess signs. This unofficial guide will not invent ceremony, stories or site meanings. Book the official tour if that is why you came — Sundays and public holidays 2 pm and 3 pm in published notes, other times private/group — [VERIFY].
Not walked. Confirm stairs, height and session times on official pages and the sign the day you go.
Who should skip underground today
Skip Crystal Cave if anyone cannot manage stairs and bending, if you have no ticket and no Plan B, or if the group already committed to Ghost House. Skip Cabaret as a “free cave.” Skip Yonderup unless McNess has actually booked you on that product.
Plan B that still counts: Caves Walk, Dwerta Mia, koala boardwalk, Loch McNess. Competence is turning around at the gate when the tour is full.
Protect the Perth reverse: a 3 pm tour plus a long surface loop is how groups hit dusk tired. Book morning, walk surface after, or skip underground and still count the park.
What not to stack onto this precinct
Do not stack Crystal Cave onto Ghost House the same afternoon. Cave + Caves Walk is a half-day. Cave + koala + picnic is a family half-day. Cave + 12.4 km is how people miss 3 pm or finish in the dark.
- Walk-up on a peak weekend with no booking and no Plan B.
- Promising Cabaret Cave as the same tour.
- Touching formations or loitering at the gate when the tour is full.
- Assuming Yonderup is included in a Crystal Cave ticket.

3–5 hours on the ground (plus ~45–60 min each way from Perth CBD)

Ghost House ruins: what we will (and will not) say

No. Vehicle entry (or walk-in) is one system. Crystal Cave is a separate attraction fee. Official cave page re-checked 26 Aug 2026: Adult $16 / Child $8 / Concession $12 / Family $40. Passes do not cover it. Confirm live.
Can I go in without a tour?
No for Crystal Cave as a tourist product. Stay out of closed caves. Unguided entry is not the plan.
What if the tour is booked out?
Walk Caves Walk or Dwerta Mia, do koala boardwalk and Loch McNess. That is Plan B that still counts — see the booked-out article.
Is Cabaret Cave the same tour?
No. Cabaret Cave is a function venue. Exterior / context only unless you have an event booking.
What about Yonderup Cave?
Listed on the official park page as a 60-minute guided tour. No dollar on the attraction-fees table when we checked 26 Aug 2026. Confirm at McNess. Not included in a Crystal Cave ticket.

Other park areas
Pick one extra precinct, not all of them. Ghost House replaces the extra — it does not sit on top of a cave plus picnic.
McNess House & visitor precinct
2–4 hours for a koala + picnic + short walk; longer if you add a cave tour
The working front door: park entry, McNess House Visitor Centre, koala boardwalk, picnic ovals, Chocolate Drops, golf meeting, and the start of most short walks — about 45–60 minutes north of Perth CBD on sealed 2WD roads.
Skip if: You expected dogs, a walk-up show cave, or to treat Henry White grass as overflow parking. Ghost House is not a lap of this oval.
Loch McNess wetlands
45–90 minutes for Wetlands Walk
Paperbark wetlands around Loch McNess — yanget, waterbirds, the easy Wetlands Walk, and the first kilometres of Ghost House if you keep following the wrong markers.
Skip if: You wanted a beach swim, a boat launch, or a five-hour ruins walk by accident.
Ghost House ruins & woodlands
Woodlands ~1 hour; Ghost House most of a day; Coastal Plain 3 days
Tuart and banksia woodland, limestone outcrops, the Ghost House ruins on the 12.4 km loop, and the longer Coastal Plain / Rose / Cockatoo country beyond the picnic ovals.
Skip if: Anyone is not a five-hour Class 3 walker, you cannot register Walk Safe before McNess closes, or you also promised a 3 pm cave.
Henry White Oval campground
Overnight; maximum 7 nights
The only official bookable car-accessible campground inside the park for general visitors — unpowered grass and hardstand, Park Stay only. Yanchep Inn is separate commercial accommodation.
Skip if: You do not have a Park Stay booking, you wanted powered sites, or you are a day visitor looking for overflow parking.
