Things to do in Yanchep

Most first visits revolve around the koala boardwalk and a picnic, with an optional Wetlands Walk around Loch McNess or a booked Crystal Cave tour. Ghost House is a different clock — most of a day, Walk Safe, lunch water. Overnight is Henry White Oval (Park Stay), not a picnic overflow. Do not try to collect every product on a first visit.

Some stay, tour and gear links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Park fees, Parks Passes, Crystal Cave tickets and official Park Stay bookings are never affiliated.

Day one rule

Pick one primary experience (usually koala + picnic, or a booked cave). Do not collect cave, Treetops and Ghost House on a late Perth start.

Heat / energy bail-out

Wetlands Walk or koala boardwalk is a complete visit. Skip Ghost House in January heat. Bail-outs are competence. Check emergency.wa.gov.au.

Overnight / booking filter

Crystal Cave and the cultural tour are tickets. Henry White is Park Stay — not a walk-up oval. Walk Safe is registration, not a paid permit. Parks Passes do not cover attraction fees.

  1. 1

    Koala boardwalk

    ~240 m · family icon · weekends crush

The classic first-visit stop: a short ~240 m boardwalk to a small managed colony in the McNess precinct (since 1938 — not wild-native WA bush). Viewing commonly 8 am–4.30 pm; the 3.15 pm talk is still listed as suspended [VERIFY]. One slow lap, then picnic or the lake — weekend queues are the failure mode.

  2. 2

    Loch McNess & Wetlands Walk

    ~2.7 km · easy · heat Plan B

Paperbarks, yanget and waterbirds — the quiet circuit that still counts as Yanchep. Wetlands Walk is about 2.7 km, not a swim, and Ghost House yellow markers leave this country. Heat Plan B when the koala rails are a zoo.

  3. 3

    Crystal Cave (guided, ticketed)

~45 min underground · separate till

Perth-metro tourist cave: book at McNess or official pages — being in the park is not a ticket. About 45 minutes, ~18 °C; Adult $16 / Child $8 / Concession $12 / Family $40 (official cave page, 26 Aug 2026). Parks Passes do not cover it. Cabaret Cave is a functions venue, not this tour; Yonderup is a separate 60-minute product. Sold out? Walk Caves Walk — do not loiter at the gate.

  4. 4

Short walks (Caves, Woodlands, Dwerta Mia)

    Class 3 / easy · half-day · spring colour

The honest half-day legs: Caves Walk ~4.5 km Class 3, Woodlands Walk ~2.6 km, Dwerta Mia / Boomerang Gorge ~2.1 km or a ~500 m loop. Spring wildflowers (roughly August–October) sit on these trails — stay on track for dieback. Do not inherit Ghost House yellow by accident.

  5. 5

    Kangaroos, picnic ovals & golf

Wildlife · picnic · golf ground fee

Western greys use the ovals and the bush golf course, especially early and late. Give space; never feed. Picnic ovals are the family reset — Henry White grass is booked camping, not overflow parking. Golf is a real land use (9 holes $11 / 18 $15 planning figures [VERIFY]) — do not cut fairways as a walking shortcut.

  6. 6

    Ghost House Walk

    12.4 km · Class 3 · most of a day

The signature long day: 12.4 km Class 3, about five hours, yellow markers from McNess / Loch McNess to limestone ruins and back. Register Walk Safe. Carry lunch and water. There is no drive-up ruins lookout. Do not stack a 3 pm cave onto this loop. Coastal Plain is a different, experienced multi-day.

  7. 7

    Overnight at Henry White Oval

Park Stay · unpowered · max 7 nights

The only official bookable car-accessible campground inside the park — unpowered grass and hardstand, Park Stay only. Showers mean the additional-facilities band (adult $20 / concession $15 / child 6–15 $5 planning figures, 26 Aug 2026) plus vehicle entry. Yanchep Inn is a different commercial bed. Day visitors: picnic ovals, not booked sites.

  8. 8

    Aboriginal Cultural Experience

Official · ticketed · [VERIFY] hours

Official cultural tour, commonly the same advertised price band as Crystal Cave. Public sessions often Sunday and public holidays 2 pm and 3 pm — [VERIFY]. Book at McNess. This unofficial site does not invent stories — use the official product and on-site signs.

  9. 9

    Treetops Adventure (independent note)

Paid · private operator · time sink possible

A commercial ropes / zip product associated with this park — separate operator, separate ticket, separate clock. Not DBCA. Include only if tickets and energy fit; do not stack it onto Ghost House plus a 3 pm cave. We mention it so you do not confuse it with park walks. We do not sell it.
